SELF DEFENSE
The root of TaeKwon-Do is self-defense. Although this point would seem obvious, it is sometimes obscured by commercialized schools that promise everything from straight A’s for children to Olympic tryouts for young adults to vastly improved longevity for seniors. These may come, if that is within your potential, but it is not the purpose of the discipline.
TaeKwon-Do means defending yourself with your feet and hands. At Universal TaeKwon-Do Federation, we teach traditional TaeKwon-Do in a gentle, disciplined way, and allow the student to rise to his or her natural potential without force or pressure.
SELF ASSURANCE
As skill in self-defense builds, self-assurance naturally follows. Shyness falls away. A quiet confidence develops. Challenges are met enthusiastically and are taken on logically, step by step.
At the same time, because no TaeKwon-Do pattern is ever performed perfectly, humility emerges to keep this self-assurance in check, so it never becomes cocky or boastful.
PHYSICAL FITNESS
At UNIVERSAL TAEKWON-DO FEDERATION, every class begins with stretching and exercises. This develops strength and flexibility naturally, without undo soreness. And, as skill in the art develops, the aerobic benefits are impressive. Cardiovascular strength improves and stress dissolves away. In fact, it is such a good workout that many students, especially adults, find it is all the exercise they need.
STRESS REDUCTION
Combining stretching, exercising, aerobics, blocking, kicking and punching together produce a stress reduction formula that is hard to match. A soothing relaxation and sense of well-being naturally follows a TaeKwon-Do session.
